Why is it that we’ve seen 300+ articles about burnout, read maybe 2 of them, and ignore everything they say? Perhaps it is because us type A, go at a 1,000 mph at full force, women think we can actually do it all, until we can’t. And it’s not because we are incapable of succeeding, or are “failures,” as we like to, not so kindly, call ourselves on those days where we don’t get to cross everything off of our short novel of a to-do list. It is because we try to do everything at once, be everything at once, depriving ourselves of even a moment of a break, because if we do, we believe we will not accomplish our beautiful, big, yet very achievable goals. By doing so, it makes these big dreams seem like impossible ones, ones that we keep striving for and chasing after, but never reaching them; as though they are being dangled in front of us while we’re running at a 10.0 incredibly fast sprint on a treadmill, until we cannot run anymore.

A very wise woman, a money mindset coach, named Brooke Ritchie, quoted her own mentor on the Limitless Podcast, saying “if you want to go faster, slow down.” I remember hearing that and thinking “wow, that makes so much sense, I should definitely do that” yet a day later I decided that I would totally slow down after I sped up a little more and finished everything I wanted to do. The truth is, we will always have things to do, great ideas we want to apply, and that excitement and nervousness of growing our own company. We want to do more, serve more, reach more and believe that if we stop we will fail; we will not achieve all that we want to achieve. The thing is, if we press the brakes when we’re driving the car that is our life at 1,000 mph, while on extremely sharp curves, we will crash. Yet we will also crash if we keep up at that speed. As logical wonderful human beings, it is imperative that we start thinking about this differently.

In order to truly succeed (financial success, company success, happiness and satisfaction success, success of feeling peace, purpose, joy etc.) it is time to slow down. Slow down DOES NOT mean stop. It is not sustainable to keep going at the same superfast speed all the time; it sets us up for an insane amount of detours on our path towards our goals, exhaustion, unhappiness, high levels of stress and anxiety, and even physical illness. Allowing yourself to be taken into consideration (and dare I say prioritized) and caring for your entire wellbeing, is not the thing that is going to slow your trajectory down, it is in fact the thing that is going to speed it up SIGNIFICANTLY. You can’t drive a car without gas, or for you electric car owners, without full charge. Your phone battery stops working when you don’t charge it, as does your computer and all these super cool tech tools that we use. Our bodies and brains are the original supercomputing genius, yet we don’t prioritize re-charging ourselves; thinking of it as a luxurious waste of time as opposed to a necessity. Imagine you have to work on your business, send those emails, but all your phones, tablets, computers’ batteries have died and you have no charger available to you; what would happen? You wouldn’t be able to work. Our bodies and minds are the same way. It is time to accept, embrace and apply this new, not so innovative, hack to super-growth success: take care of yourself.

What does taking care of yourself actually look like? I’m not talking spa-days or mani/pedis once a month. I am talking about DAILY practices. Yes, yes, I see your eye roll, but stay with me for a second here. Doing things to care for your entire wellbeing daily will make you more money, make you happier and get you to your goals a lot faster. I know this is a bold statement, but I know it is true, because I was the queen of eye rolls and flat out ignoring this advice for years; yet once I actually became more open to it and started applying these practices, in 3-6 months I saw results that I had strived HARD for, yet never actually accomplished before. Funny thing was, achieving those goals were way easier AND more enjoyable than ever before and honestly more than I ever could have imagined them to be. Self care truly consists of mind, body, and soul/spirit.

Your Turn To Take Action

The below are some ideas of things you can start doing that fall into these categories

Body:

  • Add a handful of vegetables to 2-3 meals
  • Drink more water, like a lot more
  • Exercise – whether intensely, yoga, dancing, swimming, walking etc.
  • Stand up every hour and walk for a minute
  • Stretch
  • Nourish your body with foods that support all of its’ different beautiful functions

Mind:

  • Set aside 1-5 minutes 3x a day just to close your eyes and breath deeply
  • Read 5-10 minutes of a book that explores mindfulness tips and tricks
  • Listen to relaxing music on YouTube whenever you can. Easily search for music/tones for abundance, peacefulness, relaxation etc.
  • Fall asleep to YouTube hypnosis, meditations, or music for deep sleep
  • Journal
  • Try new practices like EFT (Brad Yates on YouTube is a great starter), Ho’oponopono, affirmations, etc.
  • Start to identify thought patterns when you are feeling stressed, anxious, sad, angry etc. what are the thoughts happening at that moment?
  • Identify things you say all the time and question them – are they really true? I.e. I have to work harder than everyone else and be the smartest and best in order to be successful and wealthy.
  • Meditation
  • Therapy and trauma healing work
  • Sit in silence, with no music, tv, noise for 5 minutes, whether while you are driving, at home, at the gym, just be without your intentional noise of choice for 5 minutes
  • Implement choices even if you don’t know how to choose the desired emotion i.e. “I choose to slow down.” “I choose to feel more joy.” “I choose to be more confident in my ability to succeed.” “I choose to have more fun while doing this.”

Soul/Spirit:

  • Prayer
  • Religious texts
  • Books on spirituality, God, Universe, Spirit, Higher Self, Mother Earth, or whatever resonates with you

Some of these may come more naturally than others, and some may resonate more based on familiarity, readiness, belief systems, and spiritual backgrounds, but I encourage you, if you are ready, willing and able to find 1 practice in 2 and/or 3 of the above categories and apply it daily for 30 days. Then choose another one to try and add it on or even replace it with the new one for another 30 days. Rinse and repeat. New habits, new brain conditioning takes time, but consistency in doing these practices has been scientifically proven to rewire your own personal supercomputer known as your brain and allows you to not only beat the burnout permanently but also allows you to have the success you desire and actually enjoy it before, during and after you check it off your personal and professional goals bucket list.
